And What We Did There

Lovely!
We're going to Cornwall on Saturday. We're going to do "posh camping" on one of those sites where you stay in a tipi with lanterns and afghan rugs.
I've never actually been to Cornwall before. I don't think I have anyway. I've been all around it, but never quite Cornwall.
Any tips for places to visit?

Looks delightful. In these photos it seems that Cherub is looking more and more like her older sisters. Like Bella, shes so much more little girl looking these days. It's hard for me to believe how fast they are growing!

Clare, it really depends where you are, as Cornwall is a long county (takes about 1 1/2 hours to drive from one end to the other). We were staying in Penzance in the far west. Down there I would recommend St Michael's Mount (worth a drive from anywhere!) and Porthcurno (very pretty beach near Lands End, with a telephone / telegraph museum that might appeal to your boys). Also the Minack Theatre (outdoor amphitheatre on a cliff top) has free day time puppet shows for children, as well as proper plays or musicals in the evening - check the website. St Ives is very pretty but manically busy. Lands End has been turned into a tacky and expensive theme park. Cape Cornwall (near St Just) is much nicer and has rock pools.

Further north ... Tintagel Castle is spectacular. The Eden Project is supposed to be excellent, though I have never been there and have heard the traffic can be horrendous. Padstow is also pretty and manic. If you go there you can take the ferry across the Camel estuary to Rock, which is quite fun. Also if you walk to the end of the harbour and turn left, you eventually come to some very nice beaches.

Cornish beaches are wonderful, with a mix of good, playable sand and rocks / rock pools. The north coast has Atlantic waves and surfing beaches. The sea is cold, and I recommend buying or borrowing wetsuits for the kids. Wetsuits and body boards should keep your boys very happy. (We booked our older two onto a surfing course, only to hit a week when the swell was pretty flat - they still had fun, though!)

Enjoy!

Melanie ... yes, very much little girl these days (though she insists that now she is four she is a big girl like the other two). I hadn't noticed how much like her sisters she looks now until you pointed it out!

Thanks Kathryn
That's really helpful.
We're going to be staying near Tintagel, so I'll definately take a trip to the castle.
Your photos really whet the appetite for a Cornwall beach holiday!
