To Dry? Or Not To Dry?

Our weather is downright unreasonable.

This morning I hung my laundry on the line ... I checked the sky, and there was plenty of sun breaking through the cloud, and enough wind to dry the clothes quickly.

By the time I reached the last few socks it was raining.

I took it all down again ... and by the time I got it back indoors the rain had stopped.

Even poor Cherub was confused. Note the interesting combination of summer dress and winter hat ...

Later on I complained to my mother and she pointed out that today is St. Swithin's Day:

St Swithin’s Day, if it does rain
Full forty days, it will remain
St Swithin’s Day, if it be fair
For forty days, t'will rain no more.
It had better be wrong!

After the rainy June we had, I sympathize. I love the Cherub's combo. I finally put away the winter clothes to forestall any such behavior. Getting tired of dressing Sophie in mittens, scarves, hats and coats, all of which she adores.

I'd forgotten it was St Swithin's day and I'm not sure my nerves can take 40 days of rain and the fear of flooding...
