Tevye and I had a kind of random conversation last night about what we could choose if we could pick a small thing that could be done magically - instantly and without any effort on our part. No great life or world-changing wishes, just a little touch of magic. These were our choices.
Me: To be whisked from the sofa to my bed. When I'm tired I want to go to bed now. I don't want to have to go through the whole nightly routine of undressing, throwing clothes in the laundry, putting on pyjamas, washing, tooth cleaning, using inhalers, and general faffing around before I can get into bed. A little wave of a magic wand and ... pouff! sofa to bed! Bliss!
Tevye: Instant unpacking and sorting out when we return from a holiday. Unloading of car, unpacking of bags, washing, ironing and putting away of clothes, checking and answering email backlog, dealing with post, catching up on anything else that has gone undone ... all sorted!
Now I think his is a poor idea as we only go away once or twice a year, whereas I would benefit from mine every night. He thinks getting from sofa to bed is such a small and insignificant process it is a waste of a good magical wish.
What would you choose?

A Little Magic

I really dislike dressing for Mass as I have to have the whole family presentable at once. But the ability to repair my daughter's glasses instantly would also be very welcome.
Occulo reparo! There ... 'tis done! Can't help with the dressing for Mass, I'm afraid ;).
Oh that's easy. I want the dinner dishes to be washed and put away, including all the pots and pans, knives and cutting boards and prep bowls.
Somehow at least one night a week dinner just seems to run into bedtime and the dishes just don't get done and I wake up to a huge mess. It's the end of the day, the toddler needs a bath, she's ready now but if you wait till the dishes are done she'll have changed her mind; and then the baby decides it's time to eat NOW. We get swept into bath time rituals and then bed time and the it's 8:30, or 9, and we want to just collapse on the couch not go do dishes.
I'd choose both, but leaning towards Tevye's a little bit more. And that's because we take frequent weekend trips and unpacking and getting back to normal takes me a long time. Really one of my dreaded tasks.
Sorry but I'm gonna have to agree with M. But you know we travel a lot, so it'd be worth it for me. Yours was a good choice, too, though!
I am torn. Both are good choices, but I tend toward the bedtime choice. When I go through my whole routine, I am almost awake again, so I lay in the bed for awhile before I can actually relax and fall asleep again!
Kathryn,
What a fun question!
I would choose to have a delicious, healthy dinner appear on the table every night. :-)
I love these other choices, too, though.
I would have the house tidy itself everyday including vacuuming and dusting, preferably while we eat lunch. And if it would clean its own closets once a month or so that would be great.
