Canal Festival

A few pictures from the the local canal festival Tevye, Cherub and I went to on Saturday.

Morris dancers

Clog dancers

And a rather impressive drummer

Rural crafts

And narrow boats

I took a couple of short videos of the folk dance group, English Miscellany - the camera on my phone was doing battle with the sun, so the lighting isn't great. This first clip of the morris dancing was cut short by Star phoning me to say she had a stomach ache and felt sick. Fortunately that was as bad as it got!

This second clip was of the finale, with both men and women dancers.

How I would have loved to have been there with you! Those are real Morris Dancers - I was so disappointed when we went to a fair the last time we were in England and the Morris Dancers looked like American football cheerleaders!

Terry Pratchett invented the dark Morris Dancers... odd man.

Rural crafts made me laugh - bet they were part of the 'basketmakers guild' which Princess was for a while and I think my dad still is.

I've read about Morris Dancing, but never seen it. Thanks for the video.

Of course, because of my satiable curiosity then I had to go watch more You Tube videos and then read an article about the history of Morris Dancing. So now I am mildly more informed about an obscure bit of English culture. Oh the delight of a good rabbit trail when I should be making dinner!
