In Memoriam: Barbara Brown

A friend of mine died today. I only ever "met" Barbara by email, but came to know her as a courageous, faithful woman with a deep love of the Catholic faith she found some years ago. We shared a love of literature and posted favourites to each other across the Atlantic. The bravery with which she and her family faced her battle with cancer was an inspiration. I thank God that I had the opportunity to know her, if only from a distance.

Eternal rest grant to her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Any friend of Barbara Brown is a friend of mine. I too met her via email and message boards, but never IRL. What a woman! I like fiction-like Angela Thirkell, Marjory Sharp, Sigrid Undset, Paula Grogger, and good children's fiction - who are some of your favorites?

I find I read more adult non-fiction than fiction, but authors I enjoy are Tolkien, Elizabeth Goudge and Louis de Wohl. The most recent adult fiction book I read was The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Favourite children's authors are C.S.Lewis, Cynthia Harnett and Geoffrey Trease (both historical fiction), and Elinor Brent-Dyer, who wrote a very lengthy series of school stories set in various European countries. She was a Catholic convert and there are many religious references scattered through the books. And we are also J.K.Rowling fans ;).
